Don’t Abuse SEO Social Networking

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

If you have become part of the social network system, you know yourself that you don’t want to be spammed.   That is why if you intend to use the social networks like Facebook, My Space and others you must not abuse it.  You can use a social network in your search engine optimisation, but you must follow some key rules.  This article will give you some ideas on how you can network without breaking any rules.

Do not become a member of these sites just to spam people.  It isn’t ethical, and the social networks watch this closely.  You should be able to find people that have the same interests as you so that you can establish friendships, not customers.  This can help you build links, but you must avoid becoming a pest.  If every time you sign on all you want to do is have someone read your latest search engine optimisation content, you won’t be very popular.  As a matter of fact, it will most likely backfire on you.
A way that you can make social network sites valuable is to talk to people about the similar things that you like. Ask if they have any information that they would like to contribute to your site.  Talking with others can be a good way to link with many people, but you must be sincere.  People can detect a phony friend online just as they can in person.  Don’t abuse the privilege of being a friend.

Something that would be permissible by the social networking site and the search engines would be trading articles.  If the common interest of the friends matches you could ask them to read your article and give you feedback.  You could do the same thing for your friend.  If there is a link that takes them to something in the article, that would be alright.  Everyone can benefit, but you aren’t’ there just to drum up business with your SEO.

Give as much as you receive.  You must be honest and forthright about your intentions.  This space should be used to meet people and share information, not give a sales pitch.  Somewhere along the line an opening might occur when you can pass along some original information about what you do if you have a product or service they might like to know about, or if you can get their advice on the product or service.  Don’t be a nuisance, and don’t abuse the privilege of being on a social network
